What is counselling?
From time to time people experience emotional difficulties which can make life hard to cope with. Talking about your problems can help ease the burden.
Sharing your thoughts with family or friends can be invaluable but if they are over-involved, biased or even the subject of the upset themselves, this will not be possible.
Counselling is a process whereby two people, one who is professionally trained to listen, come together on a regular basis to explore issues affecting the other. It enables the client to identify, examine and come to terms with what is troubling him or her.
Talking to a trained professional may be preferable. You will be listened to, accepted and supported no matter what. Doctors may offer you counselling but all too often the waiting lists are long and you may not get the help at the point when you most need it. If this is the case then private counselling is a viable alternative. You can make an appointment when you want and there is no limit to the sessions that you can have.
Counselling can be immensely empowering as it encourages greater self awareness and personal growth so that more positive choices can be made in the future.
